About This Project
Summary
Becoming Visible: Bringing American Women’s History into Focus, the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum’s inaugural digital exhibition, was developed to shed light on intersectional stories from women’s history that have been excluded, erased, obscured, forgotten, and almost lost. We created this exhibition using Smithsonian collection objects, dynamic illustrations, immersive motion design, and narrations by Smithsonian curators and Rosario Dawson.
Goals & Objectives
It has never been enough to prove that women have a history; we must understand why women’s stories are obscured in the first place. Becoming Visible invites audiences to question how history is made and join the museum’s efforts to ensure women’s history is no longer written in disappearing ink.
Results & Impact
Substantial media attention, amplifying its reach and influence: Dr. Jill Biden and Lynda Carter spoke at the launch event, the New York Times, the Art Newspaper, Forbes, and Soledad O’Brien covered the exhibition, and Melinda Gates posted about the exhibition on LinkedIn and Instagram.
