About This Project
Summary
Scientific research is often globally centered around the English language for ease of collaboration. This, however, leaves the majority of the world on the sidelines with regard to accurate science based information in the fight against climate change. The international team at South of 2 Degrees collaborated to use AI technology in order to bridge that gap and make climate research (& the South of 2 Degrees podcast) accessible to a truly global audience.
Goals & Objectives
The goal was simply Climate Inclusivity by leveraging new AI technology to not only do direct translations, but to localize the translation for cultural and linguistic nuances as well as develop voice models to give voice to those translations for the South of 2 Degrees podcast.
Results & Impact
Focusing on climate inclusivity and leveraging AI voice models opened the door for the 321 million French speakers & the 460 million Spanish speakers around the world to get firsthand access to climate research and information, successfully moving away from a restrictive English only model.
