About This Project

Summary

For Earth Month 2024, the world’s most prestigious journal Nature and its publisher Springer Nature hosted a free photography exhibition to challenge science stereotypes. 50 portraits, curated from Nature’s ‘Where I Work’ photo essay section, showed scientists in surprising settings across 28 countries and ~40 scientific disciplines. Displayed across London’s vibrant King’s Cross, the large interactive gallery received top tier media coverage and was seen by more than 3 million visitors.

Goals & Objectives

To challenge perceptions of scientists to inspire future generations to consider STEM careers. To promote science and research to a new audience, beyond Nature’s readership. To highlight scientists working on sustainability-related projects, to show science and research addressing the climate crisis

Results & Impact

900 school students visited. One girl said: “You can do anything!” Coverage: The Times, BBC, Vatican Observatory, Conde Nast Traveller. 100+ launch event attendees i.e. British Academy, Crick Institute, Natural History Museum. ~15% of Nature’s Instagram post engagement from non-followers
