Summary

Stellar Aid Assist is a first-of-its-kind aid disbursement system helping organizations deliver urgently-needed cash assistance to vulnerable populations quickly and transparently, using digital currency. It is a timely, tangible example of digital currency and blockchain technology solving a real-world problem.

Goals & Objectives

There are many challenges to traditional aid disbursement. Existing tools available are often inefficient, or can present issues to reporting and traceability. Stellar Aid Assist solves problems in humanitarian cash aid delivery related to scale, transparency, access, cost, and portability.

Results & Impact

Stellar Aid Assist has been piloted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Rescue Committee, to deliver urgently-needed cash assistance to displaced persons in Ukraine. The total aid delivered is now over $2.2 million, with 2500 aid recipients to date.
