About This Project

Summary

The Vocable AAC app is an AI-enabled augmentative and alternative communication tool available at no cost on iOS and Android devices. Through head tracking or touch, users have the ability to create a customized library of words, phrases and categories for everyday use, or use the power of AI to assist with active conversation. Vocable is poised to help the millions of adults and children who experience difficulty speaking and are affected by voice, speech, language, or swallowing disorders.

Goals & Objectives

The goal for Vocable AAC is to facilitate more accessible communication between nonverbal users and their caregivers utilizing relatively inexpensive technology most people already own (i.e., smartphones and tablets) for users who might otherwise not be able to afford traditional AAC devices.

Results & Impact

With a 4.5-star app rating and a localization management platform, Vocable is a multilingual product serving users globally - in 46 countries. Vocable averaged 457 tablet users per month and 1486 phone users per month in 2023 and, and since its release, Vocable has had 23,300 total downloads on iOS.
