About This Project

Summary

The 2023 STAATUS Index finds 3 of 10 Americans are unable to name a historical event/policy related to Asian Americans and while organizations across the U.S. fight to pass mandates to teach AAPI history, they don’t have the curriculum or supplemental reading options to teach students. We partnered with Third State Books, LAAUNCH and The Asian American Education Project to create Fighting to Belong! a graphic novel which shares the history of AAPIs as part of American history.

Goals & Objectives

TAAF believes education is a long-term solution to fight anti-AAPI hate, and our hope is that when students see themselves in history books and their peers learn about their stories in class, we can create a sense of belonging and shared humanity.

Results & Impact

Fighting to Belong! released as #1 on Amazon’s New Releases for Children’s Asian & Asian American Books and Children’s Books on Immigration. It has 5 star reviews on being a great read for kids and the entire family to learn about AANHPI history. We hope to continue interest with Volumes 2 & 3.
