About This Project

Summary

The General Store is part of a bigger project, Cornerstone Montclair, with a mission of increasing opportunities for community inclusion for people with disabilities through employment and social engagement.  The mission comes to life through participatingbusinesses, including in the retro-style store that has a little of something for everyone.

Goals & Objectives

The goal is to empower people with disabilities and change perspectives of what they are capable of doing. What they can contribute to their community. This is achieved through employment opportunities, carrying merchandise and artwork created by people with disabilities and relationship building.

Results & Impact

The General Store employs about 12 young adults at any given time. At least half of those employees have some type of disability (Down syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy) and work alongside neurotypical peers. As a result people with disabilities feel valued and at home in their community.
