Community-Led Reproductive Health Solutions Across Colombia
The William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health PROJECTAbout This Project
Summary
As organizers of the International Conference on Family Planning, hosted for the first time in Latin America, our team led journalists across Colombia to uncover reproductive health solutions—indigenous traditions in urban hospitals, youth-to-youth programs, bicycles bringing information across the desert. We wove their stories into an 11-minute film for the opening ceremony, immersing over 3,500 global researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in real-life community-led health initiatives.
Goals & Objectives
To create a cinematic storytelling experience showcasing the innovative work of regional partners and elevating Colombia's leadership in reproductive health—inspiring a global audience from 131 countries to recognize the power of community-led solutions and adapt them to their own contexts.
Results & Impact
With the rollback of reproductive rights worldwide, the film makes the case for locally led solutions. Spanning cities, deserts, and jungles, it shows what communities can achieve with government and private support—and it set the tone for a conference that drove commitments in reproductive health.
