About This Project
Summary
The National Civics Bee® is an annual nonpartisan civics competition for middle schoolers that increases civics knowledge, skills, and disposition among young Americans, their families, and communities. Hosted by The Civic Trust® of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with chambers of commerce across the U.S., this competition enables students to explore issues that matter to their communities, fosters responsible citizenship, and fills a critical civics education gap.
Goals & Objectives
By 2026, the Bee aims to engage 50,000 middle schoolers across all 50 states, culminating in a nationally televised championship. This expansion seeks to elevate civics as a national priority, harness business leadership to strengthen democracy, and inspire active citizenship in today's youth.
Results & Impact
Within two years, we’ve had 20x growth, expanding from a pilot in 5 communities in 2022 to 100 communities across 28 states in 2024, engaging 8,000+ students. Impact includes increase in civics knowledge among participants and their families, and increased civics learning standards in schools.
