About This Project
Summary
Talking Trash, supported by Niagara Cares and brought into online gaming with Filament Games, powered over 20,000 young people to test their recycling know-how through our digital platform and Robot Champions—bridging online play and real-world action. Through this collaboration, they recycled nearly 100,000 bottles—30% over our goal—removed 2,000+ pounds of plastic, saved energy to power a laptop for 50 years, and launched school-wide and local advocacy movements.
Goals & Objectives
Our goal was to make recycling accessible and relevant for today’s young people by combining education, real-world action, and in-game rewards. We aimed to have young people recycle 75,000+ bottles and spark local advocacy in recycling deserts like CA, LA, and TX.
Results & Impact
We exceeded our goals—engaging over 20,000 young people to recycle nearly 100,000 bottles and sparking local action in TX, LA, and CA. With Filament, we bridged gaming and real life, making recycling relevant for Gen Z/Alpha and equipping youth to lead recycling initiatives in their communities.
