About This Project

Summary

Charley is a private, secure chatbot that provides up-to-date, accurate information about abortion options in every zip code in the U.S. Whether abortion seekers need pills by mail, a procedure, or to coordinate care in another state, Charley chats like a friend and answers like an expert, offering only information that health care providers and lawyers have reviewed. It is designed to be accessible and conversational, and consideration was given to enhance comprehension, trust, and autonomy.

Goals & Objectives

Today, 25 million women of reproductive age live in states that have banned or severely restricted abortion. Figuring out how to access abortion care can be stressful and overwhelming. The goal of Charley is to provide up-to-date, accurate information about abortion options everywhere in the US.

Results & Impact

Since launch, Charley has reached 40,000 users, the majority from states where abortion care is banned or restricted. The bot has been embedded on 21 organizations’ websites and counting. The top 5 states Charley users come from are Texas, Florida, Georgia, New York, and North Carolina.
