About This Project
Summary
In Gaza, WCK faced a lack of fuel and equipment for cooking. We needed stoves to cook 100,000 meals a day, made from IDF-approved materials and fuel sources. Plus, the stoves needed to be compact because every inch of a truck that is taken up by a stove or fuel, is an inch not filled with food. In weeks, we developed a stove that uses wood pellets with a solar-powered fan to stoke the flames, and partnered with manufacturers in Egypt to get the stoves to Gaza as quickly as possible.
Goals & Objectives
Goal: Feed as many people as possible, with the urgency of now. In Gaza specifically, our goals were four-fold: Identify an energy source and stove to feed thousands; Overcome fuel and equipment supply-chain prohibitions; Secure a local manufacturing partner; and Ensure compact design.
Results & Impact
To date WCK has provided more than 68,500,000 meals throughout Gaza–the majority of which were made using our compact wood pellet stoves. In total, more than 700 WCK pellet stoves have been sent into Gaza. Each stove has the capacity to cook thousands of meals a day.
