The Most Impactful Organizations of the 4th Annual Anthem Awards

As the home of the leading organizations driving change at all levels, The Anthem Awards sees the best from the impact community. Annually, we present the organizations that saw the greatest success in the competition with Anthem Company Of The Year honors. We’re honored to recognize this select group of organizations for resiliently building a better tomorrow for LGBTQIA+ communities, centering purpose in mainstream narratives, being a life-saving support and expanding the use of tech for good.

Let the work of these esteemed Anthem Winners serve as inspiration for the future we can achieve. Read on for a close look at the winning work of GLAAD, DEPT®, Victim Services of Durham Region and Google!

Nonprofit of the Year – GLAAD

The Anthem Awards is honored to recognize GLAAD as the Anthem Nonprofit of The Year for being a force in protecting LGBTQIA+ rights nationwide. A storyteller and resource, GLAAD is the vital advocate fighting for a world where everyone can live the life they love.

We’re honored to amplify their work, especially at a time when the fair, accurate and inclusive representation of LGBTQ communities is essential in building protections.

With their Equity in Media and Entertainment Initiative (EMEI) and “Here We Are” campaign, GLAAD is focused on ensuring that authentic LGBTQ stories are seen and not erased. The dynamic work in expanding collective understanding of Queer narratives earned their team 9 Gold, 6 Silver and 1 Bronze Anthem Award wins.

Agency of the Year – DEPT®

For making a difference through impactful and beautiful storytelling, The Anthem Awards is proud to recognize DEPT® as this season’s Anthem Agency of The Year!

By centering the narratives of marginalized communities and spotlighting unique solutions, DEPT® is a leading force in using creativity for good. Their campaign “Bol: The Store of Christmas Makers” highlights the positive impact that improved accessibility to goods can have on people’s lives.

Notably, their interactive initiative “Growing as We Grieve” with Sesame Workshop creates deeper context into grief and the process of healing. Their excellent blend of impact and creativity earned their team 6 Gold, 10 Silver and 3 Bronze Anthem Awards, and 2 Community Voice honors.

Inaugural Small Nonprofit of the Year – Victim Services of Durham Region

Advocacy is cooperative. Grassroots teams create systemic change locally, driving action on a global scale. The Anthem Awards is celebrating the work of those on the frontlines of change by recognizing the Toronto-based organization Victim Services of Durham Region with the Inaugural Small Nonprofit of the Year Award!

From crisis response and intervention to prevention services, their team is dedicated to creating a safe community where people are supported, empowered, and thriving throughout the Durham Region of Ontario.

Through educational programs, including “In Your Shoes,” which helps youth identify and navigate potential human trafficking situations, and the “Just Hold On” campaign, which raises awareness about the dangers of gang recruitment and violence, they are working to prevent violence through awareness and education. Their work earned their team 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze Anthem Award wins, and 2 Community Voice honors, snagging them this inaugural Special Achievement title.

Brand of the Year – Google

Earning 6 Gold, 15 Silver, and 3 Bronze Anthem Awards, we’re proud to recognize Google as this season’s Anthem Brand of the Year.

With their annual “Black-owned Friday” campaign, Google encourages everyone to support, search for and shop from Black-owned businesses. They foster inclusivity in digital spaces by ensuring representation. Google is also setting the standard as a socially conscious brand, encouraging the responsible use of generative AI to create a more sustainable future through its “LearnLM” initiative.

Ensuring accessibility is another focus, as seen in the “Javier in Frame” campaign, which illustrates that anyone can use their products however they need.

Patagonia – Don’t Buy This Jacket

Patagonia has put social impact at the core of their brand mission and values from the start, and their iconic Don’t Buy This Jacket campaign demonstrates how brands can use their platform to make an impact — or better yet, to help reduce our impact. This 2011 ad ran in the New York Times on Black Friday, making a lasting impression for its bold message addressing the issue of consumerism head on and asking readers to take the Common Threads Initiative pledge to reduce, repair, reuse, recycle, and reimagine a world where we take only what nature can replace.
